Becoming a Starfish Volunteer

Working with Starfish as a Volunteer is both fun and rewarding.

Minimum age 14. Minimum time commitment 2 (1 hour) sessions per month Sept – July at the Braywick Leisure Centre in Maidenhead between 17.00 – 18.00 hrs.

Volunteer / helpers will normally be required to work 1:1 with members – either non-swimmers or inexperienced swimmers who are developing stroke / style capability.

Each member is graded and has to meet specified performance levels in order to progress to the next grade and volunteer helpers work under the direction of a qualified teacher to assist the member to progress. No previous special needs experience is necessary as induction training will be provided. In addition volunteers often use this experience to achieve sign-off towards the Duke of Edinburgh award and/or specific school GCSE/A Level course related to community support. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer we would be delighted to hear from you. Please use the Contact Form and select “volunteer/Teacher recruiter” to contact the person responsible, indicating your age and reason for wanting to volunteer.
